Department of Health Department of Health 2023/08/16 - 22:00

The South Rand District Hospital would like to inform the public and relatives of patients currently admitted at the facility that the power outage experienced at the facility is receiving attention.

The matter was reported to the Gauteng Department of Infrastructure Development who have since appointed a contractor on an urgent basis to work on restoring the electricity supply.

South Rand District Hospital has been operating on generators since Tuesday, 15 August 2023 when power supply went off. This was reported to City Power on the same day. The utility only responded on Thursday (17 August 2023) morning and upon investigation established that the problem might be emanating from a faulty cable on the hospital’s internal infrastructure which connects electricity to the facility.

The hospital wishes to apologise unconditionally to all affected parties. Patients continue to receive care at the facility in spite of the situation.

End.
