30-year-old Philisile Sibiya, a graduate of the Gauteng Department of Social Development beauty hub training program, recently founded her salon, Philly’s Hair Clinic in Emndeni, Soweto which specializes in hair including make-up services. Sibiya started hairdressing in 2014 as a self-taught hairdresser but felt she needed professional insight about the different types of hair.
She was referred to The Beauty Hub by a friend in 2021 on the skills development program funded by Sustainable Livelihoods Directorate.During her classes at The Beauty Hub, she learnt about different types of hair chemicals to use on indigenous hair, ways to maintain healthy hair and different techniques of hairstyling.“My reasons for joining The Beauty Hub were to improve my skills and grow my business”, she said. While her dream is to own a big salon, she currently looks at creating employment for the youth by transferring the skills and knowledge she gained from The Beauty Hub.She currently employs one person whom she has been grooming from the age of sixteen and hopes to create more employment for young people. .She plans to increase the number of her salons in shopping malls and increase the number of customers countrywide. To achieve her goal, she would appreciate financial support from the government and potential sponsors, followed by a successful registration of her business.
