MEC Mazibuko’s Swift Action Brings Hope To Youth Battling Addiction

In a proactive move to combat addiction, Gauteng Social Development MEC Faith Mazibuko facilitated the admission of nearly 70 young people from Sebokeng, Boipatong, and Bophelong into government-supported drug treatment centres. Among them were six girls and a 15-year-old minor, who were admitted to the Dr. Fabian and Florence Ribeiro Treatment Centre.

These young individuals, some previously living on the streets, reached out directly to MEC Mazibuko for assistance in accessing rehabilitation services. Honouring their request, Mazibuko coordinated with available centre, ensuring they could join a 12-week recovery program.

During her visit to hotspots frequented by substance users as part of the Ke Moja Fridays campaign, Mazibuko praised the courage of these young people, reminding them, "The journey to recovery begins with you." This heartfelt response came as groups were screened by Social Workers and medical staff and given meals to start their rehabilitation journey.

This effort exemplifies MEC Mazibuko's commitment to addressing addiction and offering young individuals a pathway to recovery.
