Department of Community Safety 2025/05/15 - 09:14
On 8 March 2025, Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi led a multi-disciplinary service delivery operation in the Emfuleni Local Municipality. The Premier was joined by MECs, HODs, Mayors, Councillors, SAPS, and other dignitaries from across the province. These Provincial Integrated Service Delivery Operations follow the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Integrated Cross-Border Law Enforcement Operations, which took place on 15 April 2025. The MoU aims to enhance coordination and enforcement across municipal and provincial borders, promote intelligence sharing, build capacity, and support community-based safety campaigns.
The programme included a range of key activities throughout Emfuleni, including school searches and talks, law enforcement operations, waste management and illegal dumping clean-up, and road maintenance.
Emfuleni came to a standstill as law enforcement agencies were deployed in full force across the area. Members of SAPS, Gauteng Traffic Police, Gauteng Traffic Wardens, and officers from Metropolitan, District, and Local Police Departments joined forces in conducting joint roadblocks. These operations focused on monitoring motorists’ compliance with traffic laws and searching for illegal contraband, including drugs, unlicensed firearms, and stolen vehicles.
Meanwhile, members of SAPS, TMPD, Gauteng Traffic Wardens, and Siyabangena Patrollers conducted a school safety search at Moshate Secondary School in Sebokeng. The initiative aimed to create a safe and conducive learning environment for learners and educators by removing illegal substances, dangerous weapons, and other items that could threaten safety and discipline within the school premises.
The Department’s Provincial Secretariat unit, together with other stakeholders, also conducted a school safety talk at Thuto-Tiro Engineering School of Specialisation in Sebokeng. During the session, learners were empowered with information on social challenges such as gangsterism, bullying, and substance abuse. They were encouraged to speak out against any form of abuse, with emphasis placed on seeking help and knowing their rights. The school safety talk forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen safety in and around schools through proactive education and interdepartmental collaboration.
At Saul Tsotetsi Sports Complex, government services were brought closer to the people. Gauteng Government Departments, local and district municipalities, SAPS, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and other key stakeholders showcased their services to the community. In his address, Premier Panyaza Lesufi emphasised that all the resources at the Provincial Government’s disposal would be utilised across every area of Gauteng. He also extended his gratitude to all law enforcement agencies and private security companies, encouraging them to continue delivering the essential services that residents depend on.
One Gauteng. One Plan. One Mission – A Safer Gauteng for All!
