With South Africa's unemployment rate at 34.4%, the Gauteng Department of Education has called on qualified and unemployed educators to register on its vacancy database.
Once registered, educators will have their details readily available to all 15 districts and all school principals in Gauteng- a move that has come at the right time. 
"The Department has created a system for unemployed educators which allows fully qualified educators (only) to capture their full details on the system which will then be readily available to all 15 districts and all school principals within the province," department's Spokesperson Steve Mabona said
Mabona said details of educators that fit the profile of the skills, learning areas and grades that are currently in demand at that particular time are extracted from the database and called for interviews. 
This innovation from the department will go a long way in addressing unemployment in the province.
Statistic South Africa (Stats SA) has revealed that the Quarterly Labour Force Survey (QLFS) official unemployment rate increased by 0,1 to 32,6% in the first quarter of 2021, the highest since the start of the QLFS in 2008.
To register, interested educators can apply on: education.gauteng.gov.za, click on the vacancies tab and then click on unemployed educators.
