Gauteng Premier David Makhura together with the Members of the Executive Council (MECs') on Wednesday 7 June, 2021 visited different areas around the province to assess non-medical vaccination sites, and joined community healthcare workers in encouraging eligible persons to register for the COVID-19 vaccination.

The visit is part of the provincial government and civil partners' Mobile Vaccination Drive, launched on Monday, 05 July 2021 aimed at ramping up the vaccination programme in the province.

Persons aged between 50-59 years who are eligible to register on the Electronic Vaccination Data System (EVDS) were encouraged to register so that they can receive their COVID-19 jab.

Leading by example, Premier David Makhura and MEC for Roads and Transport, Jacob Mamabolo received their COVID-19 jab.

Also vaccinated, was Gogo Miriam Moatsoe (103) from Riverside, who could not contain her excitement.

Since the launch of the mobile vaccination drive the province has seen an improvement in vaccination numbers.

Premier Makhura said "97% of teachers in the North of Johannesburg have vaccinated for COVID-19 and the remaining 3% will be vaccinated today."

This is despite a reported  number of teachers and support staff who were refusing to be vaccinated.

Makhura said those who need transport to the vaccination site will be catered for.

"We are providing transport that is taking people to the vaccination site. A lot of people are saying they are ready to be vaccinated," said Makhura.

The provincial government calls on all Gauteng residents to get vaccinated when their turn comes.
