51-year-old Fleurhof resident, Modika James Moleya says he was sceptical about getting the vaccine; however he changed his mind after the death of his friend due to COVID-19.

Moleya said even today he cannot believe that his friend is gone.

"We used to hang-out together. He was my best friend. Lazarus attended a family funeral in North West, I think that's where he contracted the virus, I can't believe that Bra-L is gone," said Moleya.

Moleya said he was grateful he did not contract the virus when he visited his friend, Lazarus a day after he came back from North West.

He noted that another thing that convinced him to get vaccinated was his brother.

"My brother was vaccinated last month in Soweto, he assured me that there was nothing wrong with him, I started to believe that it was good for me to be vaccinated," said Moleya.

Moleya said he would be one of the first people to register when the system is opened for 50-59-olds on 1 July.

"I'm just waiting for the early hours of the morning tomorrow to register, it seems like there is no other way we are going to run away from this, people are dying every day. Vaccine is our only hope," said Moleya.

Registration for the COVID--19 vaccination for those aged between 50 and 59 years began  on 1 July 2021 and they will be vaccinated from July 15.
