Operation Khanyisa iGauteng switches on 7 transformers in Orange Farm - 30 September 2024

Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi led Operation Khanyisa iGauteng in Drieziek 3,4 and Stretford 6 in Orange Farm on Monday, 30 September 2024.

Operation Khanyisa iGauteng is part of the Gauteng Energy Response Plan in partnership with Eskom. The initiative aims to replace and install transformers in underserved communities.

Residents of Driekziek block 6, sang in joyful praise celebrating getting their electricity back, they thanked Premier Lesufi and Eskom technicians for restoring their power as it has been over two years without electricity.

Premier Lesufi oversaw the switch-on, engaged with community members, and encouraged them to look after the infrastructure also asked to be given time to address issues affecting the ward.

An elderly woman, Mpho thanked the Premier, saying it was painful to live without electricity for so long, but they are grateful as it was very costly.

Driekziek 3 and 4, residents were filled with joy as the return of electricity after more than five years without electricity. Premier Lesufi conducted a walkabout, visiting homes to ensure the successful restoration of power.

The Premier proceeded to Stretford Ward 1, which had been without electricity for one year and eight months. He urged the community to maintain the transformers and teenagers to focus on school.

The Gauteng Provincial Government remains committed to the Operation Khanyisa iGauteng programme and plans to extend its benefits to other communities in need.
